During the past eight years Dick Cheney has often been effective in shutting out competing points of view which has been the preference of George W. Bush who likes simple choices and quick decisions. Obama is going to have long sessions with his team where everybody are going to have their say and then he gets to contemplate. He is more contemplative than Bush in any case. Critics are of course going to attack him for indecisiveness and if he picks one person's view in one question and another one's in another question, he is going to be accused of inconsistency when it comes to his political philosophy. I think Obama is quite knowledgeable on foreign policy, he just lacks the hands-on experience.

Hillary might be kissing her presidential dreams g...

Hillary might be kissing her presidential dreams goodbye.

I can't see her running for president after eight years of Obama and if she would win the nomination in eight years she would be too closely tied to the former administration to stand a chance. And age matters, as we saw in this election.

I guess that there's no chance of president Obama not winning the nomination of his party after four years in the West Wing. It's of course an entirely other ball game if it's president Biden seeking the nomination at that point of time...

One thing is certain. Obama is covering his back big time with this huge amount of foreign policy experts in the same cabinet. Is he possibly overdoing it?

I wonder how smoothly things will work with Clinton, Biden and Gates seated at the same table. Does Gates really want to be there? What about the existing rivalry between Clinton and Biden?

Finally one wonders if this leaves any room for Obama himself to develop his knowledge of foreign policy issues.
